The video clip demonstrates Romberg's test:
This examination is based on the premise that a person requires at least two
of the following senses to maintain balance while standing:
Proprioception
Sensation
Vibration
Vision
A patient who has a problem with proprioception can still
maintain balance by using sensation and vision. The patient is stood up and
asked to close his eyes. A loss of balance, as occurs with this patient, is
interpreted as a positive Romberg sign. Proprioception relies on the dorsal
columns of the spine being intact.
