Biography
Interested in the environment from a young age, Garth undertook a BSc at UCT in 2000, majoring in Ecology, Environmental and Geographical Science and Zoology. After graduation in 2003 he worked a short stint as an intern for an environmental consulting company, where he found the GIS the most interesting and rewarding part of the job.
In 2006, he enrolled at the Stellenbosch University, completing his BSc Honours in GIS and Environmental Analysis (2006) and MSc in Environmental Management and GIS (2010). He began as a GIS and EO Specialist at the CGA directly after his studies in 2010, and was appointed as CGA Manager in 2014. His current responsibilities include the strategic planning and management of the CGA; management and oversight of a number of GIS and EO related projects; research grant and tender applications; research and development of new GIS and EO products; and research, lecturing and training in GIS and EO. Garth has co-authored a number of GIS and EO peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, conference proceedings and research/consultancy reports, and has presented at a number of national and international GIS and EO conferences.
