1.    Introduction

1.1  Welcome

Welcome to free Chinese ABC courses offered by Confucius Institute of Stellenbosch University. We hope you will enjoy learning Chinese with us and take advantage of all that Confucius Institute and Stellenbosch University have to offer.

 

1.2  General information

The Chinese ABC courses are offered over a 7-week period, without charging for course fee. Only registration and book fees need to be paid. All courses are offered with a minimum of five students per class. Should the number of students be fewer than five, a course may be cancelled or, after careful consideration two class may be combined.

 

1.3  Course overview

An integrated approach incorporating listening, speaking and reading skills will be adopted. However, a specific language skill, including basic Chinese characters writing, may be emphasized more than others in a specific module or level. Certain grammar and vocabulary are listed as emphases in the program. Specific assistance on HSK tests and basic dissemination of Chinese culture will be offered as well.

 

1.4  Expected outcomes

Generic outcomes: Students should be able to demonstrate language ability in certain daily communication using limited vocabulary.

Specific outcomes: Students should be able to pass the HSK tests appropriate to their language levels.

Two classes of 60 minutes each per week, over a period of 14 weeks (excluding public holidays).

Expected outcomes

Students should be able to demonstrate language ability in certain daily communication, and should be able to pass the HSK tests appropriate to their levels.
