Art Troupe Performances from China
On October 1, the Nanjing Tech University Art Troupe won a great success when held at Reitenbosch Primary School. The Art Troupe was sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and organized by Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University.
A total of over 500 students and staff watched the show, including Mr Roy Van Rooyen, the principle of Reitenbosch primary school; Mr Robert Kotzé and Ms Jian Fu’ai, the co-directors of CISU; and guests from different social sectors.
At the very beginning, Mr Roy Van Rooyen thanked all staff who threw their heart and soul into the performance and invited Mr Robert Kotzé to make a speech. “It is an honor to take part in the art show in Reitenbosch, our first and only Confucius Classroom. We have hosted different kinds of events here in the past, and we will keep going in the future”, said Mr Robert Kotzé. What is more, he said, “Today is the National Day of China, let us give them our best wishes.”
The whole programs took about one hour and a half, including folk dances, martial arts as well as traditional Chinese instruments playing, among which the Dragon Dance, Tai-chi, and Calligraphy draw a lot of attention and were greeted with a storm of applause. At the end of the show, the performers interacted with pupils, teaching them Tai-chi and calligraphy on the stage, which pushed the whole event to a climax.
After the show, all performers and staff took picture together with the kids as a souvenir. And some kids said they are pretty interested in Chinese culture and want to go to China in the future.
