CISU learners and students at Chinese Bridge Summer Camp

 

A group of 29 students and learners from the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University (CISU) recently visited China to take part in the Chinese Bridge Summer Camp. Students from Stellenbosch University and learners from Worcester Gymnasium and Rhenish High School visited Beijing and Xiamen from 27 June to 11 July 2015. They joined 68 students from other Confucius Institutes in South Africa for the annual competition.

The selected students, who excelled in Chinese at Confucius Institutes, spent five days in Beijing, where they visited famous places like Tiananmen Square, the Palace Museum, the Great Wall and Olympic Park. Students and learners then visited Xiamen University (XMU) where they spent 10 days. Here they took part in Chinese, Chinese Calligraphy, Painting, Martial Arts, Tai Chi, and Paper Cutting classes. They further participated in a cultural tour, visiting the Siming Campus of XMU, Gulangyu Islet and Zeng Cuo An.

The purpose of the visit was to learn more about China and improve their Chinese language skills and at the end of the camp learners and students completed the Youth Chinese Test (YCT).

The year of 2015 the Chinese year in South Africa and the CISU promises to make more opportunities available for students to visit China.
