Opening ceremony of Confucius Classroom at Worcester Gymnasium
4th, December 2017, the Opening Ceremony of Confucius Classroom at Worcester Gymnasium was held. It is the second Confucius Classroom of Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University (CISU).
Kang Yong, Council General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, Qin Shengyong, Co-director of Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town (CIUCT), Mr. Juan Benjiamin, WKOD - District Director of Cape Winelands District, Dr. Brian Wilson, Head Curriculum Support of Cape Winelands District, Mrs. Jeanny Harker, Circuit Manager at Cape Winelands District, teachers with CISU and CIUCT, teacher and student representatives of Worcester Gymnasium High participated in the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by the principal of the Worcester Gymnasium High, Mr. Charl Schoelman.
The opening ceremony was started with the performance of CISU teachers. Mr. Kang Yong stressed his congratulation for the establishment of the Confucius Classroom at Worcester Gymnasium High. He analysed the current status of China and Chinese language. He also encouraged the students to learn Chinese language and bridge the friendship between China and South Africa. At last, he demonstrated his welcome for students to come to China to experience Chinese culture.
Mrs. Jian briefly introduced CISU and Worcester Gymnasium High. She explained why Worcester Gymnasium High is chosen as the place to establish a Confucius Classroom.
Following by the student representative, Courtney, Mr. Huan Benjamin expressed his the importance of disseminating Chinese language education in the Cape Winelands District. He believes that the establishment of the Confucius Classroom is the foundation of further communication and interaction.
The ceremony ended in the applauses. Guests and students enjoyed Chinese food afterwards.
