Stellenbosch school principals visit China

“There is no country better known for its broad and profound culture! I am leaving China today, but I will visit again in the future. I have wondered why there are so many Confucius Institutes all over the world and now I have found the answer.” This is what the principal of a local school in Stellenbosch said returning from China. The principal was part of a delegation of nine people visiting China from 19 June to 2 July. The group was accompanied by Jian Fu’ai, Co-director of the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University (CISU).

Travelling to Beijing and Xiamen, the delegation visited the Chinese Culture Experience Centre, the Great Wall and the Palace Museum in Beijing. Experiencing Chinese culture and enjoying the country’s cuisine they also visited Xiamen University and two local secondary schools. Here they learnt about Chinese painting, attended a Chinese tea ceremony and discussed the differences between the education systems of two countries.

All members of the delegation obtained certificates after attending a course at Xiamen University.
