International Healthcare Seminar on Traditional Chinese Medicine concluded successfully

The International Healthcare Seminar on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was held in Stellenbosch and Cape Town from 15 to 20 November 2015. Prof Eugene Cloete, Vice-Rector: Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, Mr Kang Yong, Chinese Consulate-General in Cape Town, and Mr Robert Kotzé, Senior Director of the Postgraduate & International Office (PGIO) and Co-Director of Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University (CISU), attended the seminar. 

During the seminar Prof Qian (Xiamen University) and Dr Sorger (University of Western Cape) gave speeches about acupuncture treatment on pain control. In their speeches they gave information about how acupuncture treatment works and the status quo of acupuncture treatment both in China and South Africa.

Prof Lin gave updates about the TCM treatment on cancer, Prof Huang introduced the different methods used in dealing with certain symptoms of diabetes,Prof Wei shows the correct use of Chinese patent medicine,Prof Fang performed the sports on health preservation. All these Professors from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine paid more attention on TCM of local diseases. Their speeches gave locals not only an update of TCM but also show the remarkable effectiveness of traditional Chinese medical treatment in modern diseases.

The International Healthcare Seminar on Traditional Chinese Medicine was hosted by the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University and School of Nature Medicine at University of Western Cape. As part of local Chinese language and cultural promotion program of the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, CISU invited professors from the best traditional Chinese medicine universities to help TCM students catch the latest knowledge and research of TCM. Also, to give local residents a better understanding of TCM and how it could improve their life.

This seminar is the beginning of the Local Traditional Chinese Medicine Promotion program of CISU, and was well recieved by the local community,giving the CISU more reason to promote and serve the students and residents with Chinese langue courses and culture events.
