Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST)

The Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) was established on 1 January 1995 as an interdisciplinary research centre in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University. Then known as the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, the focus was more transdisciplinary. Since the late 1990s the work has become more focused on sociology of science and science policy issues, and, more recently, also on knowledge production and the linkages between science and higher education.

The Centre also hosts the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (SciSTIP).

The research domains of CREST cut across diverse fields of science and thematic areas such as Evaluation studies, Science, Technology and Innovation policy, Human resources for science and innovation, Scholarly publishing and social studies of science, Research evaluation and the social impact of research, Science communication theory, and Science communication practice.
