The CST Anthropocene Dialogue Series presents a talk presents a talk by: Dr. Michael Jacobson Professor of Forest Resources, Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, Penn State

Time: 12:30 – 14:00, Monday 18 March 2019

Venue: CST Boardroom

Although the scientific community advocates that proper management of the water-energy-food (WEF) nexus is urgent, complex, and essential for maintaining human welfare across the globe, it simultaneously admits ignorance on how the embedded interwoven factors actually function as part of an integrated system. Penn State is facilitating a WEF Africa initiative that brings together transdisciplinary researchers and practitioners to improve our understanding of the multifaceted interactions of integrated WEF systems. By examining the interrelationships between system variables and development challenges, resulting principles can be used to guide the evolution of sustainable communities and foster capacity building with local and global partners.  This presentation will describe Penn State’s WEF Africa initiative and lead to a discussion about opportunities for collaboration and networking.

Dr. Michael Jacobson is a professor of Forest Resources in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at Penn State. He has extension, research and teaching programs that promote sustainable management of forests and other natural resources. He teaches courses in forest economics, global agricultural systems, agroforestry and international forestry.  He is an extraordinary professor at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and has current projects in Kenya, Morocco, and Zambia. He is the Director of the Africa Water-Energy-Food (WEF) initiative at Penn State.
