The fifth annual systems dynamics conference in South Africa was successfully hosted by the South Africa System Dynamics Chapter on Monday 27 November 2017. A diverse range of topics including e-health, renewable energy, electric cars, natural resource management, infrastructure decision tools, zombie apocalypse and workplace anxiety were presented across 20 presentations.

An exceptional keynote by Andrea Bassi (pictured above) drew out his observed trends of shifting from global to local modelling and cases, the emergence of cross sector modelling as well as reliance in hybrid modelling techniques, and a call for more spatial detail to complement the temporal detail already offered by system dynamics. The themes he talked about, were visible throughout the day’s presentations.

During the conference, the new Policy Council members for the SA System Dynamics Chapter were selected (pictured below). We congratulate the following CST staff members that were appointed: Josephine Musango as vice president, Benjamin Batinge as student representative, Paul Currie as conference co-chair for 6ASDC and Andre Troost for social media publicity.
