Profile

Luke Symonds-Mayes is an MPhil student from Namibia who holds a BSc in economics from the University of Groningen. Having spent a large portion of his upbringing in Namibia’s Zambezi region, he is passionate about conservation and sustainable wildlife use. His key interests lie in environmental and development economics. As part of the USAID Resilient Waters programme and under the supervision of Dr Hayley Clements and Dr Enrico Di Minin, Luke plans to conduct an explorative study on the socio-economic impacts of Namibia’s trophy hunting industry. Particularly, his study will focus on exploring the value chain of this industry and how rural communities can play a greater role within this chain.
