This research explores innovative community development practices that can be implemented within South Africa’s large scale renewables roll-out. The research is focused on how community development funds, made available from renewable energy projects, can be used to respond to the developmental needs (such as energy poverty and rural electrification) faced in beneficiary communities.
The particular area of focus is exploring ways in which socio-economic development and enterprise development funds can be used to establish social enterprises that can respond to specific developmental challenges faced by communities
