Bioelectrical impedance is an easy, quick and inexpensive method to measure body composition. However, its validity and reliability is dependent on various factors, such as the hydration status of the individual, as well as caffeine intake and physical activity prior to measurements. It is not known whether the specific electrodes that are used for the measurements have any effect on the reactance and resistance values from which body composition parameters are calculated.
The study aims to test 80 men and women between the ages of 18 – 25 years. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) will be performed twice on each individual using specialised BIA electrodes and standard ECG electrodes.
