LEADERSHIP, ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We endeavour to celebrate an African perspective of leadership as part of our experience together while embedding a rooted African perspective of innovation.

Our focus is to build a powerful experience of our shared purpose and vision in order to facilitate the practical application of information to drive meaningful change as part of our curriculum.

We are committed to positioning the FVZS Alumni as a growing and active identity.

We will venture to bring the spheres of leadership development and social justice together.

DEMOCRACY, JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS RESPONSIBILITY

Motivated by the need to provide spaces which are inclusive and which creates a sense of belonging for all students given the realities of the dominant culture at SU encouraging a sense of belonging without the pressure to assimilate

Re-imagining and recreating an environment for prioritising justice and human rights.

We commit to the global project to recapture our struggle for humanity for all, and for the African continent through conversations, which includes the personal context strongly, that holds both SU and our government accountable to that project.

We commit to being bold enough to talk about the current realities within Stellenbosch University, Higher Education, the critical issues in South African and Africa and the factors and systems which has brought us to this present reality.

CRITICAL ENGAGEMENT, INNOVATIOLN AND INCLUSIVITY RESPONSIBILITY

Positioning conversations around transformation and decolonisation as a collegial vision through partnerships

Remaining relevant by addressing injustices in ingenious ways whilst being conscious of constantly shifting contexts in terms of transformation, diversity, and multi-culturalism

We are committed to facilitating the development of a critical intelligence which will enable us in confronting the structures of oppression and discrimination, remaining innovative and future focused in what we do.

Promoting the value of inter-group dialogue and discourse on difficult topics and issues, as well as encouraging the use of individual narratives as an important component of how we engage the spaces we find ourselves in.

REPOSITIONING STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY AS A NEW AFRICAN UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBILITY

We realise that meaningful change is about changing institutional culture and institutional culture is all about the people within our curriculum

We actively support the vision of a decolonised higher education sector in South Africa, within a curricular and co- curricular environment.

Contributing to the strengthening of the graduate attributes of Stellenbosch University

Through our offerings we aim to position the University of Stellenbosch as the New African University locally relevant and globally competitive with a focus on innovation.
