Maties Gymnastics - Stellenbosch University

Maties gymnastics club invites all Stellenbosch university students who would like to participate at both competitive and social level gymnastics. Each year we have many students that start with no prior gymnastics training and end up winning many of the competition events.

We practise at Van Der Stel hall which is equiped with both mens and womans artistic apparatus. We also cater for rhythmic gymnastics, tumbling, trampolining and mini-tramp.

Training takes place throughout the year and apart from training hard we also arrange many social events and the odd camping trip.

Competitions

There are +/- 5 competitions in the year, and whilst not compulsory, you are encouraged to take part to build up team spirit, especially the USSA (University Sports South Africa) competition. This is the main competition in the year among the top universities in South Africa. Maties Gymnastics have won this competition for the last 7 years and with new blood each year we could go on winning this major event.

Coaching

Fred and Jenny are the official coaches of Maties,and have been for the last 20 years.
