Dear First year Goldie

From Goldfields’ side, a hearty welcome to Stellenbosch University! You are one of the few selected to be mentored and coached to make a difference in the world and in our ever-growing South Africa.

Furthermore you were selected to reside in one of the most diverse residences on campus. Goldfields is a value-driven residence where your fellow students are more than just people, but engaged citizens. Due to Goldfields being one of only two mixed-gender residences, we strive to be a family.

My lewe is ‘n lang en ewig-veranderende pad waar ek as ‘n individu gevorm word deur die mense om my; ek het veral méns geword in Goldfields. Goldfields, as ‘n studentegemeenskap van die Universiteit help om selfstandige studente af te lewer wat ‘n verantwoordelikheidsin het teenoor die gemeenskappe om hulle.

We live by our values of Freedom, Unity, Respect and Responsibility. Our constitution, ethos and thoughts are shaped by the tensions inherent to these values. Our welcoming program promises to be in line with our and the University’s values for welcoming: Friendliness, Dignity and Hospitality. I’m sure many of you as prospective students are both scared and excited about this new chapter of life, but do not fear. We have a network of resources such as mentors and tutors to make sure you succeed and fulfill your expectations.

Die Huiskomitee (HK) is daar om die huis te dien en mense te lei. Ons sien baie uit om jou hier te hê as ‘n eerstejaar van 2013. Ons as die jong mense van ons land het só baie om voor te lewe en só baie om na uit te sien. Dis ‘n vooreg om saam met jou in hierdie lewenservaringe te deel.
