Login | Foundation Programmes Colloquium 2012Building a Firm Foundation: Theory Informing PracticeBy 2012 the current Higher Education Foundation Provision approach will be at the end of its second three year cycle. This intervention has developed within a very specific framework (as set out by the DHET), and the time has come to consolidate what the HE sector has learnt about Foundational work approached in this way. While work done in Foundation Provision rogrammes has been reported widely (there are examples of presentations at regional, national and international level), the sector needs a critical and comprehensive consideration of the theoretical base of this work. This colloquium is therefore an attempt to both investigate existing educational development theories and how they contribute to our Foundation Provision practice as well as to explore new or adapted theoretical developments to support our practice. For more information on this event, please visit the Foundation Programmes SIG page. Case Studies of Epistemological Access in Extended Curriculum ProgrammesA book of case studies, produced by academics at UWC and CPUT, is available for free. Click on the book to download. The book contains reflections by academics working in various extended curriculum programmes on teaching practices designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge structures and literacy practices of their chosen programmes. The book arises from a number of staff development initiatives in which academics shared their practices and considered the extent to which they went beyond remedial notions of student development and attempted to make the mysteries of their disciplines accessible to all students. This book joins two others on issues related to Foundation Provision in South Africa, all of which are available for free download from the HELTASA website. Please visit the Foundation Programmes SIG page for the other two issues. | Skip Conference 2012Skip Calendar Calendar
