Student groups can apply for Community Interaction HIV related project funding

The Office for Institutional HIV Co-ordination (OIHC) would like to invite you to apply for small grants to contribute to our vision of increased community engagement and collaboration.

We encourage small groups (or project teams) from student groups, first year students and/or Mentors to develop and implement small community interventions. The beneficiaries of your project can be within the student or greater Stellenbosch community.

The preferred projects will be granted funds of up to R7 000 to implement the project. Criteria will be used to assess a project on a 5-point scale to determine selection and the degree of support it receives. Here are some key factors we will be looking for:

• Projects must have community involvement;
• Projects must respond to needs of a community (student or surrounding Stellenbosch area);
• Element of sustainability needs to be reflected in the action plan ;
• Projects must include some element of monitoring and evaluation of implementation and outcomes;
• Volunteer hours must be logged;
• Training needs to be provided for volunteers regarding the basics of HIV.

You are welcome to contact Jaco G. Brink (jgbrink@sun.ac.za) for more information and proposal templates.

We wish you all of the best for 2010 and hope that together we can move toward a campus free from new HIV infections!

Regards from the OIHC team!
