The Centre is governed by its Constitution and led by a Director who is appointed by and reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Science.
The Dean of Science consults on a bi-annual basis with an advisory board in order to inform decisions about the strategic directions to be pursued by the Centre. Members of this board represent expertise from the business community, the sport medicine community and the public sector in sport and recreation, as well as representatives from the university environments of research development, community interaction and faculties (invited on a rotational basis to ensure multi-disciplinary representation).
The day-to-day operation of the Centre is managed by the Director, who cooperates with a committee consisting of the managers of each of the Centre's units. The Director is also responsible for the financial management of the Centre according to the rules and regulations that apply to all Stellenbosch University academic entities.
Quarterly progress reports are submitted by the Director to the Dean of Science.
