University of Minnesota (USA)

The Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport at the University of Minnesota is the primary research partner for the Centre's Girls' Leadership and Sport Development Academy. The Tucker Center is an interdisciplinary research centre that examines how sport and physical activity affect the lives of girls and women, their families, and communities.

Scholarship produced by the Tucker Center is concerned with how sport and physical activity improve girls' and women's psycho-social and physical health throughout their lives - promoting girls' self-confidence, preventing eating disorders, and helping women stay healthy as they age. The specific project with Stellenbosch University measures changes in girls' self-confidence and their perceptions of social responsibility as an outcome of their participation in the Girls' Academy.
