African Perspectives on the Developmental Potential of Sport
This unit explores the unique human and social dimensions of sport and defines its potential to contribute to development. Interdisciplinary research from psychological, sociological, historical, cultural, economic and political perspectives is encouraged.
The term "sport" is interpreted in its broadest sence to include play, games, contests, dance and other forms of physical activity that have served as expressions of the meanings found in human movement performance.
1. Sport and Development examines the impact of sport participation and sport events on local, regional and/or national development priorities.
2. Sport for Development examines the various ways in which sport is used as a means for individual and/or community development. This theme includes the psychological and social aspects of sport for youth.
