In 2011 Stellenbosch University was part of 3 Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programmes and more than 30 postgraduate students and staff received scholarships to study and research at various European universities. The Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programme forms part of the Erasmus Mundus and External Cooperation division of the European Commission.

Stellenbosch University is proud to be associated with the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (EMA2) scholarship programme and will be part of both programmes awarded by the Commission for 2012. The two programmes namely ema2sa II coordinated by University of Leuven (Belgium) and eurosa II coordinated by the University of Antwerpen (Belgium) will provide postgraduate students and staff the opportunity to take part in coursework, research, teaching and training at a number of European Universities.

Each of the two consortia consists of a range of established European institutions as well as a number of South African higher education institutions. All South African students and staff enrolled at one of the South African higher education institutions forms part of Target group 1 for which a higher number of scholarships is available.
