Community Interaction at Stellenbosch University exists to initiate and manage partnerships with communities, thus facilitating cooperation between communities and the university, and providing the means whereby both parties can actively discover knowledge, teach and learn from each other.
The Weber Gedenk Litteracy Program with Huis Visser
This Project has been in place for a number of years now and entails teaching the grade 3s of Weber Gedenk primary school in Jamestown reading and writing skills. What began as a free eye-test where the children who needed them received a free pair of spectacles has now escalated into a long term relationship with the children and teachers of Weber Gedenk as well as with Huis Visser.
The St Vincent’s project
This is a new project we will be starting with Simonsberg. St Vincent’s School visits will include a number of different activities including academics, culture and sport.
Ireners can get involved in community service by joining the Community Interaction committee of Irene where they will be equipped with skills to interact with other communities.
