What can you expect at Campus at Campus Health under Health Promotion and Preventative Care?

  1. Diseases of Lifestyle
    • These include diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arthritis, obesity, chronic anaemias, depression/ anxiety, and more…
    • We can provide preventative education and interventions (for those who do not have the illnesses, but who may be at risk), as well as curative education and interventions (for those who do suffer from these illnesses)
    • We can provide ongoing monitoring and treatment of these illnesses, as well as screenings for possible long-term complications
    • We do this through a multidisciplinary approach, as we have well-trained doctors, nurses and dieticians to implement these protocols
  2. Travel Clinic
    • For all your travel medicine enquiries and services
    • Consult us before you travel, as well as when you return from travelling
    • We provide compulsory (Yellow Fever), as well as other travel-related vaccinations
    • We provide malaria prophylaxis as appropriate
    • If you feel unwell after visiting a foreign country, please present to us as soon as possible after returning home
  3. Immunisations
    • We provide immunizations for travel purposes
    • We also provide routine booster vaccinations for our adult population
    • We encourage all who have not recently routinely vaccinated against measles, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, meningococcal meningitis, rubella and hepatitis A & B to consult with us sooner rather than later
    • Visit us for your annual influenza vaccination
  4. Disease Outbreaks
    • We provide information on especially infectious disease outbreaks, as happened recently, viz. influenza (Swine Flu) and measles
    • We would like to know from you where you are working or playing whether you detect any suspicious illnesses, especially in the hostel environment
    • We provide assessments of and information about possible tuberculosis and meningococcal meningitis outbreaks
  5. Nutrition
    • We have a dietician available for all types of dietary-related advice
    • All those with diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, cardiac disease and similar illnesses are encouraged to utilize this dietetics service
    • We also provide dietary services for healthy individuals, who wish to follow a more healthy dietary lifestyle
  6. Medical Screenings
    • We provide screening to diagnose conditions like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma, anaemia
    • We provide to screening and monitoring for those suffering from the above illnesses
    • We provide screening and monitoring for those wanting to lose weight
    • We provide screening and monitoring for those wanting to stop smoking
    • We provide screening and monitoring for those wanting to stop drinking alcohol
    • We provide screening and monitoring for those who think they suffer from a mental disorder, like depression or anxiety
  7. Pharmacy
    • We have a suitably stocked pharmacy to cover all acute medical, surgical and psychiatric conditions
    • We can assist those with chronic conditions to obtain their chronic medications/ filling in of chronic disease forms for their medical aids
    • We stock all relevant vaccinations
    • We can assist you to acquire medications which are uncommonly used, but not kept on our shelves as routine medications (eg. For acne/ depression, etc)

Preventative Medicine

Vitality Assessments done by our Dietician:

Our dietician, Sunita Potgieter, is a registered at Discovery Vitality and can do Vitality Assessments. These cost R250 and each person will receive 5000 Vitality points upon completion. Assessments take about 45 – 50 minutes to complete and the patient will receive a full report afterwards.
