F.A.Q. For Prospective Students

What do I have to do to get residence placement in Metanoia?

Unfortunately Metanoia has no control over who gets placed in our residence, due to the Residence Placement Policy, and therefore all applications go through the administration of the University of Stellenbosch. You will have applied for residence when applying for your degree.

If I know someone or have a relative in Metanoia will that get me in?

No. Due to the new policy Metanoia may not hand select residents.

Will a CV help me get residence placement?

No. The new policy has also excluded the opportunity of CV placements into residence.

If I was late in my application to residence, who can I contact?

Please contact Mrs Hendriks at administration A of the University of Stellenbosch to assist you. Metanoia will not be able to assist prospective students with accommodation themselves.

What is the HK/Huis Komitee/House Committee?

The HK aim to serve as the leaders of residence and each specifically handle a number of portfolios to enrich the student community of the residence.

What is MAD²?

MAD² is the official University welcoming program that runs for 10 days and includes events such as Vensters as well as academic and faculty specific orientation.

Must I register myself for my degree before moving in to Metanoia?

If possible we ask prospective students to e-register themselves before coming to residence. However if they are unable to for any reason, Metanoia boasts an equipped group of mentors that will help you register for your degree, sort out any administration issues with you and handle the collection of your student card.

What is a mentor?

The mentor team at Metanoia is an equipped group of individuals whose primary role it is to ease first years into life as a Matie. They are assigned to a section and will mentor the residents in that section, show first years around campus, help first years register for their degree and pick up student cards. They also aim to mentor the students as a well-rounded Matie in the six areas of wellness: Academic, Occupational, Physical, Emotional, Spiritual and Social.

Where do I find The First Years Booklet and sentevorm?

You can download both these documents in our resources section here

Does every resident get a single room?

Yes. Metanoia boasts 501 single rooms for both female and male residents.

How is the residence split between men and ladies?

The second floor is men only while the third floor is only for ladies. The fourth and fifth floors are mixed, with some residents in mixed sections and other in ladies or mens sections separately. Bathrooms are assigned to either ladies/men in each section so both genders never share bathrooms.

What furniture is in the room before I come?

Each room is equipped with a bed, mattress, chair, desk, shelf, mirror and two cupboards.

What extras may I bring to my room?

Fridges, Microwaves, kettles and fans are allowed in rooms.

What is prohibited in rooms?

Heaters, Pets, Cigarettes, Electric blankets, candles, halogen lamps or any appliances with an exposed element that could be a fire risk.

What facilities does Metanoia have?

We have 2 study rooms, an eetsaal (cafeteria), a tuck shop deli, a coffee shop, 2 laundry rooms, a gym, 2 tv rooms, a computer lab and printing facilities.
