The Director (acting) of CEMIS is the Associate Prof Ian Liebenberg.

Professor JCR Liebenberg joined CEMIS during 2007. He holds a D Litt et Phil Sociology (Unisa, 2008), an MA in Development Studies from the Institute for Social Development at the University of the Western Cape (1994), a Masters degree in Political Science from the University of Stellenbosch (1988) and a BA Hons in Philosophy (1985). His research interests include (i) transitions from authoritarian to democracy, (ii) civil-military relations and (iii) democratisation.

Doctor T Beukes joined Cemis at the end of 2007. He holds degrees in the Humanities, Political Science and Strategic Studies, as well as a doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch about mission definition and force composition for the SA Navy. His research interests include (i) war games, (ii) information warfare, (iii) mission definition and force composition and (iv) private military security companies.

Lt Col SB Ramokgadi joined CEMIS in January 2010, equipped with a Master of Public Administration degree from University of Pretoria. He is currently registered as doctoral candidate in International Relations at that university. His research interests include (i) armed conflict and human security, (ii) international organisation and (iii) crises response systems.

Major MC Kgosana is a research associate of CEMIS. He holds a Masters in Commerce (Industrial Psychology), an Honours in Industrial Psychology and an Honours in Public and Development Management from the University of Stellenbosch. His research interests include (i) education in society, (ii) human resource management and (iii) HIV in organisations.

Lt Audrey Lawrence joined CEMIS in 2010 as an assistant researcher and office manager. She holds an Honours in Public and Development Management.  Lt lawrence is enrolled for MMil in Defence Organisation and Resource Management.
