The beginning of the Greek legend on Stellenbosch campus was born.
Interestingly Minerva is the Roman name for the Greek Goddess Pallas Athena (which our termly newspaper is appropriately named after). She is often depicted with an owl, her sacred creature and a symbol of wisdom.
Minerva is also represented in the University of Stellenbosch’s official coat of arms. As part of the emblemshe is a symbol of learning and symbolises the university’s striving ( As can be seen below). Minerva also appeared in the arms of the Transvaal University College.
