A To-Do-List for Mentors

The online responsibilities of. mentors are outlined below. A toolbox with online resources, including a study skills DVD in three languages, is also introduced. Mentors are encouraged to utilise these free resources and to recommend them to their mentees.

Roadmap for Mentors

  1. Register as mentor.   All mentors must register on the online platform.  This step is compulsory. 
  2. Check and study your email.  You will receive an email within 2-3 working days with your login information and information about how to access your personalised Module Mentorship website.
  3. Login and discover your membership area.  Explore the main site (www0.sun.ac.za/modulementor) and learn about all your online responsibilities. Try out all the links. Login to your personalised Module Mentorship website and familiarise yourself with its contents. Save the location of your site for easy access in the future.
  4. Share the online platform with mentees.    Tell mentees about the online platform, what is expected from them and spesifically about the available online resources. Help your mentees to book and review sessions.
  5. Record details of each mentoring session.   All mentors must record the details of each mentoring session online immediately after they have conducted a mentoring session. The form is available once they are logged in, and also on their personalised site. This step is very important and compulsory.
  6. Perform a peer evaluation of your fellow mentors.  Evaluate the mentor's skill, behaviour and attitude.
  7. Give your overall opinion about your own mentoring.  Mentors can also perform a self-evaluation within which they can reflect on their mentoring in a specific module, or a combination of modules.
  8. Grow personally and empower others.  Invest in your personal growth. Grow your knowledge and skills further by consulting the wellness-based colection of multimedia resources that are accesible from your site.
  9. Encourage mentees to evaluate you.  Mentees can also evaluate you. Ask them to evaluate your skill, behaviour and attitude.
  10. Encourage mentees to evaluate sessions.  As an alternative mentees can evaluate the sessions: It is not compulsory for mentees to evaluate each mentoring session. Mentors should, however, encourage them to  evaluate as many sessions as possible.
  11. Study your personalised Module Mentorship website.  Regularly pay a visit to your own individualised and secure Module Mentorship website! Remember that it has: 1. A to-do list and all the forms you need to record your involvement in mentoring activities; 2. individualised reports on your mentoring activities; 3. ebooks; 4. audiobooks; 5. videos; 6. journals and 7. profile pages.
  12. Complete the Module Mentor Reflection Questionnaire.  Give your view on the Module Mentorship programme by completing this online questionnaire. It will become available on the site a week or two before the end of each mentoring cycle. Complete it for every module you are involved with as a mentor.
