X ray shortly after resection
The pain persisted after biopsy. Histology reported a benign lesion (enchondroma). After the third biopsy the next year histology confirmed a chondrosarcoma.
An en bloc resection with replacement of the humeral shaft with a vascularised fibula graft was done. Suspect a chondrosarcoma in an so called enchondroma if pain persists. To make destinguish between a benign and maligant lesion under the microscope is difficult.
It is probably better to treat all enchondromas with curettage, debridement and adjunctive cryosurgery or phenolisation at the time of biopsy. This may lessen the incidence of undetected chondrosarcoma.
