The MR images show an inhomogenous mass infiltrating the vastus lateralis. The lesion has a clear border and does not infiltrate the bone
Biopsy showed myxiod tissue within a fibrous background making the diagnosis if a fibromyxiod sarcoma.
Treatment was by excision of the vastus lateralis. Radiotherapy to the proximal region where the muscle attached to the greater trochanter and linea aspera of the femur was done as it was felt the timour had been marginally excised in these regions.

Low grade fibromyxoid sarcoma is a rare, low-grade malignant soft tissue neoplasm with a potential for local recurrences as well as distant metastases.
The incidence of recurrence of this tumour is about 10%.
