Lateral picture - the lesion had been slowly progressing over the years
The Xray showed no signs of an aggressive lesion. A biopsy was done which showed mainly fibrous tissue - in keeping with a benign fibrous histeocytoma.
An above knee amputation was done, mainly because of the huge painful mass of the limb was making it difficult to walk and knee function was badly compromised. Histology of the amputation showed an area low grade osteosarcoma on a background of fibrous dysplasea. The patient has had to give up his profession as a successful roadside beggar now that he no longer has the deformed limb to earn him sympathy.
