Notes:
In the open pour technique liquid nitrogen is poured into the cavity and allowed to freeze the tumor bed. Dangers include skin and neurovascular damage. It is thus not suitable for tumors that have a large soft tissue extension and deep areas such as vertebrae.
Bone graftingThe cavity is usually too large for autografting and use was made
of morcellised bank bone in most cases that were grafted. This allograft was
mixed with the patients own bone from the anterior crista iliaca.2 cases of
the distal radius had en bloc resection and vascularised free bone grafts from
the anterior pelvis.
