English Language proficiency requirements
International candidates who have obtained their qualifications from tertiary institutions where English is not the language of instruction are required to provide proof of English Language proficiency. This evidence must accompany your application and must not be older than 24 months from the date of application to the University.
Candidates who do not meet the minimum English Language proficiency requirements below and require additional English Language support, may enrol for an English preparation course (Intensive English Program - IEP) at the University's Language Centre. Please note that the IEP may not run concurrently with full-degree enrolment. Candidates are required to complete the pre-academic level of the IEP with a minimum of 60% before reapplying for postgraduate studies.
The minimum English language requirements and recognised language tests for admission to Stellenbosch University's postgraduate degree programmes are as follows:

*English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is recommended to students who meet the minimum requirments and may be taken concurrently with postgraduate studies.
**Intensive English Programme (IEP) is compulsory for students with tests scores below the minimum requirements.
