English Language Proficiency Requirements

If you are an international student, you will need to satisfy our English language entry requirements. Proof of English Language proficiency is required from candidates who have obtained their qualifications from tertiary institutions where the medium of instruction was not English. This evidence must accompany your application and serves as part of the supporting documentation required to successfully complete the credential evaluation of an application.

If the results of your English test show you need to improve your English before commencing your studies, you can attend a preparation course at the Unit for English at Stellenbosch University.

The minimum English language proficiency requirements for acceptance to University courses are:

  • 6.5 IELTS band (minimum 6 at all bands)

  • 550 TOEFL paper based / 79 TOEFL iBT / 213 TOEFL CBT
