1. mobilising learners at pre-tertiary level in order to identify and nurture potential at an early stage and to have more agriculture, forestry and fisheries scientists at the highest level;
2. increase the number of scientists in designated groups and to increase the number of farmers, foresters and fisheries from designated groups at commercial level;
3. to contribute towards making the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector more competitive and representative of South Africa’s demographics by providing learning opportunities to those previously marginalised.
4. it should be noted that the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries External Bursary Scheme is the major part of a more comprehensive youth development programme undertaken by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
