How do I participate?
Researchers register online by using the NRF Online system at http://nrfonline.nrf.ac.za/.
Click: Register
Follow the instructions and complete the required sections and add a CV. Press SUBMIT.
• Complete a new THRIP application (1 May- 31 July):
Researchers complete applications online by using the NRF online system at http://nrfonline.nrf.ac.za. The instructions on how to apply are available on the NRF Online welcome page on the Help screen. After completing the required sections of the application, applications should be approved by Industry Partners and validated by a US THRIP Coordinator.
Log on by entering your ID number and Password and click SUBMIT.

When project leaders (PLs) register a project online they will receive a project number, TP-----. Make sure that your industry partner is registered on the online system by going to INDUSTRY PARTNERS on your THRIP application and entering the IP's name and clicking on the SEARCH button. If they are not on the list select NOT ON LIST - you will be prompted to fill in details concerning the size, type, core business etc of the company. SUBMIT when completed. When all the sections of the application have been completed, the industry partner is INVITEd to provide a letter of intent with comments and an agreed amount to be contributed to the project. After the industry partner has responded, the application may be SUBMITted upon which the application is transferred to the worklist of the SU THRIP coordinators. The SU THRIP coordinator might RESET the application for changes to be made or APPROVE it for final submission to THRIP.
• Complete an APR (1 June - 31 July):
Researchers complete the APR on line by using the NRF Online system at http://nrfonline.nrf.ac.za/. The APR has already been generated by THRIP and the relevant sections should be completed by researchers.

Complete the information. Please note that new budgets, new industry partners, new support staff and workplan changes for the following year of the funding cycle should be included in the APR. The industry partner is INVITEd to supply his comments, state the benefits to the company, as well as state his financial, student bursary and TIPTOP contribution for the next year.
• Register a new Industry Partner on the NRF system
A new industry partner not yet on the system completes an online company registration form and submits it to THRIP.
o For a new application
In the section for Industry partner details, click the Industry Partner drop down menu to ascertain whether the industry partner has already been registered. If not, click NOT ON LIST and complete the required information (details to be requested from the Industry Partner) and SUBMIT. THRIP will evaluate, classify (large, SMME or BEE), and register the new Industry Partner on the system.
o During a grant cycle
A new industry partner not yet on the system completes a letter of intent/company registration form and the project leader completes a motivation letter on a University letter head. The project leader sends the documents via email to the US THRIP coordinator who submits them to THRIP. THRIP will evaluate, classify (large, SMME or BEE), and register the new Industry Partner on the system.
• Nominate students on the NRF system
Researchers nominate students online by using the NRF Online system. Log onto: http://nrfonline.nrf.ac.za
Click: Grantholder Tools, Student Nomination, Select the grant, Select the fund, New.
Complete the information and Save. Remember to attach proofs of student registration, PhD certificates in case of post-docs and other motivational letters as required. SUBMIT nominations after all the information has been entered.
