THRIP Introduction
The Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP) is a partnership programme that is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry
(the dti) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). THRIP promotes partnerships in pre-commercial research between business and the public-funded research base, including universities and research institutions. THRIP supports Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) research collaboration on a cost-sharing basis with industry and is focused on addressing the technology needs of the participating firms. All projects funded by THRIP must include human resource development, whereas the choice of technological focus for the activities to be supported by THRIP is left to the industrial participants and their partners. THRIP funding is matched with the THRIPable industry contribution by applying a funding ratio that depends on the size of the industry partner or the size of an association of partners, as well as whether the industry partner(s) is a Black Empowerment Enterprise (BEE). Funding ratios vary from 1:3 (THRIP contribution: Industry contribution) for large companies to 2:1 for companies that are Small, Medium or Micro Enterprise (SMME) and BEE companies.
For the THRIP objectives and priorities please refer to the
THRIP GUIDE. When preparing a proposal it also important to refer to the
Multi-Criteria Decision Model (MCDM) which guides the proposal assessment by the THRIP panel of external experts.
