A process of evaluation of Ndlovu Care Group’s After School programme

This evaluation is formative in nature since it will be conducted during the implementation of the After School Programme (ASP) with the aim of improving its effectiveness. This is a process evaluation that plans to evaluate the following activities of the ASP: offering computer lab for academic related research; offering learners/youth career guidance and mentoring sessions once a month by Life Skills Facilitators and offering Microsoft Digital literacy training. The evaluation questions of this study are: Are the activities, outputs and outcomes clearly specified? Is the intervention being implemented according to design? Is there sufficient capacity and infrastructure to deliver the intervention? How do programme learners describe their programme experience? This evaluation will make use of both Qualitative and Quantitative research methodologies. Primary data will be collected from 100 beneficiaries of the programme using a paper survey. The study will only target learners and youth from two different campuses (Elandsdoorn and Bloempoort Campus) who are over the age of 19 years of age. NCG’s programme coordinator will assist the investigator by distributing the paper-based questionnaires to learners during class. Learners will be asked to complete the questionnaires during their free time to avoid using valuable learning time. Primary data collection will also include semi-structured interviews with the programme’s facilitators, the ASP coordinator and the programme manager in charge of the programme’s implementation. Since the usage of virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, the investigator will opt to make use of one of these platforms. The investigator will conduct all eight interviews with programme staff via the Zoom platform. Secondary data will be obtained from reviewing the project’s documents.
