Sharné’s background is in architecture and she is an MPhil graduate from the Sustainability Institute, Stellenbosch University, and Urban Future Studios, Utrecht University, with a focus on green architecture, sustainable communities, energy access, experimentation, and socio-technical systems in the peri-urban and urban landscapes. She also initiated and championed the Mahali project the last couple of years for the international competition in Morocco, Solar Decathlon Africa 2019, where Team Mahali was awarded the second place in architecture and design. Currently, she is a grantee of Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 in Africa and works as a researcher at the Center for Complex Systems in Transition.
