Profile

Danai is a GIS and Remote Sensing practitioner well versed in the application of spatial analysis to environmental management in Southern Africa. Danai completed his Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies and GIS & Remote Sensing certificate from York University, Canada a unique regional think tank, Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC). There he introduced concepts of GIS and spatial analysis into the development work and research being done on transboundary natural resources within Southern Africa.

Danai is currently investigating social ecological regime shifts within the Baviaanskloof in the Eastern Cape. A unique sub-tropical biome characterised by Albany Thickets and important agricultural practices. The approach involves applying complex systems thinking to better understand the social and ecological interactions within dryland ecosystems.
