Irene Mhlanga

MPhil in Sustainable Development

Profile

Irene Mhlanga is a MPhil in Sustainable Development student funded by USAID, through the Resilient Waters Project. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography Honours in Environmental Science from the University of Zimbabwe. Irene has worked at the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) as a research and GIS officer.  She was awarded a certificate of participation in various research projects including  the Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa (MESA). She also supervised the data collection for the (UNDP) desertification project. Her work stretches to apply geospatial science in solving various environmental challenges. Irene Mhlanga published a scientific paper in 2018. As an MPhil candidate at the CST, her research seeks to investigate the impacts of trophy hunting in Zimbabwe using GIS and remote sensing skills.
