Alumni Digital Newsletter | Issue 2 | Spring 2017

As we approach the end of 2017, we are delighted to report that we have over 170 000 alumni located across 123 countries. Maties are increasingly global citizens with greater international mobility and it has become a key focus area for our alumni relations team as we continue to reconnect and engage with all Maties in the lead up to our centenary celebrations in 2018.

Over the past year, as the Stellenbosch University (SU) Alumni Relations Manager, I have had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know many of our alumni across South Africa, Namibia, the rest of the African continent, the UK and Europe, the USA and Canada as well as Hong Kong and Singapore. Our Maties alumni never disappoint—they are always instinctively welcoming, warm, curious, open, and passionate about making a difference in the world - wherever they may find themselves located.

Over the past 100 years, some things have changed at SU, but one thing will always remain: Maties pride. The ability to excel, the impact that we make on the world, the value and inherent success that Maties carry within them – across the globe – is eternal.

There are a myriad of sporting and recreational events coming up in 2018. So, if you’re planning to sign up for your favourite sporting events (such as the Cape Town Cycle Tour), be sure to join our #Maties100 challenge and show your support for your alma mater whilst at the same time raising funds for bursary support at SU. For more information on this particular Cape Town Cycle Tour #Maties100 initiative visit:  http://www.capetowncycletour.com/ and select SU #Maties100 Alumni as your cause to support.

Fellow Maties, if you are passionate about your alma mater and wish to stay connected to the place you once called home, there are a multitude of ways to keep yourself in the loop and connected. In addition to a wide range of alumni events, clubs and international hubs that we are activating around the world, consider the following ways to stay connected with SU:
