Digital Alumni Newsletter | Autumn 2021

The Faculty of Law was established in 1921 and remains the intellectual home of many judges, advocates, attorneys, captains of industry, business leaders, politicians and academics.

"We invite you to return to your intellectual home and reminisce about your student days, join in discussions about current issues and be part of the live audience by listening to esteemed speakers discuss important legal matters. Your participation will further the Faculty of Law’s endeavour to remain at the forefront of legal developments while maintaining sound relations with, and between, our alumni. As a start, please CLICK HERE for an invitation to the Annual Human Rights Lecture to be virtually delivered by Judge Navi Pillay," says Prof Nicola Smit, Dean of SU’s Faculty of Law.

Some of the events to look forward to include silver (25 year) and gold (50 year) reunion activities, decade reunion events and a public lecture, followed by a dinner in the town hall that will conclude the centenary festivities. An outline of the events appears below and detailed updates can be viewed at our Faculty website (also regarding the Law Faculty Trust).

This year’s centenary weekend coincides with the University’s flagship Homecoming and Family Weekend when thousands of alumni return to campus to celebrate being part of Stellenbosch University. The town’s atmosphere is usually electric with great excitement and positivity all around. This event is not to be missed. All COVID-19 safety measures will be in place and adhered to, to protect all involved.

"The Faculty of Law celebrates Stellenbosch University’s commitment, rooted in Africa, and its global reach. We are a 21st-century institution that prides itself on a legacy of academic excellence and a vision of developing the next generation of South African leaders who are at the forefront of societal advancement in service of humanity. Together with the Development and Alumni Relations team, we look forward to welcoming you back to your intellectual home," Prof Smit adds.
