Yes, we’re switching things up for 2021 – our annual Maties Alumni Homecoming and Family Weekend has a new date, and of course you’re invited. From Thursday, 23 September to Saturday, 25 September 2021, we’re rolling out the maroon carpet and you have a VIP ticket to come and enjoy a range of tailormade activities at your alma mater.
Gather your friends, bring your family and be part of an exciting three days during which you can reminisce, reconnect and relive your wonderful student days.
We’ve planned a full day of activities for Thursday, 23 September. The festivities will kick off with a lunchtime business and career networking event. Watch this space – we’ve invited inspiring leaders to share their expertise with you.
For the sport fans, we’ve planned a host of sport activities in which residences will go head to head on the sport field. Eendrag vs Simonsberg, Wilgenhof vs Dagbreek or Harmonie vs Monica … pick your team and show your support.
As an extra-special treat, we’re amplifying togetherness with a Maties Come Wine with Me wine tasting and food pairing experience at the Alumni Club (Die Stal). Here you will mingle with a host of alumni winemakers and taste some of the best wines on offer while brushing up on your wine knowledge or showing off your refined palate.
We’ll light the braai fires for a Maties braai under the oak trees at the Alumni Club – think prime steaks and boerewors sizzling on the grills, music in the background and an abundance of Matie gees. Come #BraaiLikeAMatie!
The festivities continue on Friday, 24 September with our decade reunions. If you were a first-year Matie in 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001 or 2011 – keep an eye on your inbox for your extra-special invitation to these get-togethers, which will include a tour of your residence and the campus. Come and see for yourself how much has changed or how much has stayed the same.
Various sêr groups and our award-winning Stellenbosch University Choir will make sure they’re all in tune to serenade you at Maties Unplugged. Pop, rock, classical – whatever your preference, you won’t be disappointed. This will be a not-to-be-missed musical event.
Several residence-specific activities have also been planned for the Homecoming period. These include Eendrag’s 60th birthday celebrations, Metanoia’s 15th birthday celebrations, Heemstede’s 55th birthday celebrations and Helderberg’s 75th reunion. Your residence will keep you posted.
On Saturday, 25 September you’ll have an opportunity to get active while taking in the breath-taking surroundings of Stellenbosch. We’re planning running and cycling events at Coetzenburg – and of course your family and pets are welcome! For the rugby enthusiasts, we’re organising a University of Cape Town vs Maties rugby game at the Danie Craven Stadium. What more could you ask for?
