Green Buildings

Environmental and ecological sustainability is always taken into account in the planning and specification of facilities within the context of the Campus Master Plan.

Wherever possible, building materials and methods are chosen with environmental considerations in mind. Buildings are designed so as to benefit from natural temperature control mechanisms when possible. For example, the Polymer, Facilities Management and IT buildings on the Stellenbosch campus use vegetation and special screens to reduce the burden of heat in buildings. Natural resources, such as trees, are planted in strategic areas to limit the buildings' heat islands.
