Mr Theo Pauw

Theo Pauw
Theo PauwTechnical Officer, GIS & EO Analyst

Theo was appointed as a GIS and EO Analyst at the CGA in 2011, where he has undertaken numerous projects using traditional automated land cover classification methods, satellite image pre-processing, aerial photogrammetry, digital surface model extraction and a wide variety of GIS-related concepts. More recently he has been working on the development of online GIS applications which make use of ArcGIS API’s for Flex and Silverlight. Theo is also involved in the GIS and remote sensing short courses offered by the CGA.

Theo holds an MSc degree in Geoinformatics from Stellenbosch University, where he also completed his BSc and BSc Honours studies. During his research and work for the CGA he obtained extensive experience in object-based image analysis (OBIA) and attended a number of training courses presented by the developers of eCognition software. His MSc thesis assessed the use of OBIA for wetlands classification on the Agulhas Plain, using both optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite data.
