Travel bursary

Stellenbosch University International (SUI) awards a number of travel bursaries to Stellenbosch University students to take part in summer and winter schools presented by our partner institutions or other non-partner institutions. Preference will be given to students applying for programmes at partner institutions.

Please take note of the following:

  • Students who are successful in regards to a summer or winter school placement at a partner institution will be automatically considered for a travel bursary.
  • It is important to note that the awarding of bursaries is based on a separate selection process. This means that a successful summer or winter school placement does not necessarily imply that you will receive a travel bursary.
  • Students attending a summer or a winter school at a non-partner institution and applying for a travel bursary will be required to complete a summer and winter school application.
  • A Budget can be requested.
  • Terms and conditions apply.

The following summer school bursaries are applicable for 2017:

Independent Travel Bursary*                       R 16 200
*Applicable to students who are attending an independent summer school.

Please note:

Only one bursary can be awarded to a student and it is also depended on the availability of funds. General conditions and requirements apply. The allocation of bursary amounts is determined by SUI.

Important:

Our focus is on co-funding, not full funding.

Stellenbosch University and its partner universities are committed to limiting the financial costs incurred by students who participate in summer and winter schools. For this reason, travel bursaries, tuition waivers and other benefits are provided and negotiated. It is however important to note that students will also need to make a financial contribution towards their own respective study trip. In many cases, it is only to cover living expenses, extra travel expenses and to comply with visa requirements, but students will be required to make a certain contribution.

It is also important that you discuss your decision with your parents, guardians or financial benefactors. Be open about your financial situation with SUI, so that we can guide you to the best of our ability.
