Apply for the Margaret McNamara Education Grant

Applications are open for the Margaret McNamara Education Grant (MMEG) 2019.  Applications are invited from female students, 25 years and older from developing countries

Eligibility criteria:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to working to empower women and children in developing countries.
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Intend to return to a developing country within two years of completing degree or intend to remain in developing country at least two years to work towards empowerment of women and children
  • Are 25 years old at time of application deadline
  • Demonstrate satisfactory academic performance
  • Be a national of a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List
  • Be enrolled at an accredited academic institution at time of application and plan to be enrolled for a full academic year upon receipt of grant
  • Not be a relative of a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund or Inter-American Development Bank staff or his/her spouse
  • Have not received a MMEG grant previously
  • Be enrolled at Stellenbosch University as a full time student.
  • Applicants applying from eligible countries other than South Africa, should be in possession of a study permit for South Africa.

Applications for 20 full Tuition Fee Scholarships are now open for international students wishing to study Higher Degree Research awards (Professional Doctorate, Masters by Thesis, Doctor of Philosophy) at Southern Cross University in Australia.

Stellenbosch University Doctoral travel grants for conference participation

Stellenbosch University's Postgraduate Office (PGO) Overseas Conference Grant (OCG) is a supplementary award to attend an international conference outside of South Africa to present a paper or poster. Only full-time registered PhD students in their 2nd or 3rd year qualify.

A full-time student is classified as one who works for remuneration for less than 15 hours per week (if at all) over a period of 10 months of a given calendar year. The support should supplement grants provided by other sources, as this award should not exceed 50% of the total budget to a maximum of R15, 000. 

This notice is for the attention of 2nd and 3rd year PhD students who intend to present at a conference in May to August 2018.
