Learning, Sustainability and Community Engagement (LSCE)

This is an academic credit bearing programme. It incorporates theoretical and practical work.
This programme is offered thrice a year;
  • during the first semester (February to May),
  • during the mid-year vacation as a summer school (June to July)
  • and during the second semester (July to October).
Knowledge partners (community agencies)
  • The semester programmes are located in the Lynedoch community, at Lynedoch Primary School.
  • The winter school programme is located in Kayamandi at the Kuyasa Horizon Empowerment.
  • Understanding community engagement within the context of South African Higher Education.
  • Integrated academic and tacit knowledge.
  • Trans-disciplinary and multicultural perspectives
  • Understanding sustainable community development.
  • A Systemic understanding of Community Development.
  • The skills to develop Knowledge Partnerships.
  • Basic Qualitative Research Skills .
  • The skills to Co-craft Development Intervention,
  • The skills to engage in a Dialectical Process.
  • The ability to think analytically, critically and practically about their work.
  • Personal Discovery and Growth through participation in various group processes.
