Big achievements for the Africa Centre for Scholarship

Prof Sarah Howie, Director of the Africa Centre for Scholarship at SU International who was recently appointed onto the international editorial board of the journal Oxford Review of Education, has been invited to serve on the Publications and Editorial Committee (PEC) of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA).

The IEA is an international cooperative of national research institutions, governmental research agencies, scholars, and analysts in over 80 countries working to research, understand, and improve education worldwide. The IEA conducts high-quality, large-scale international comparative studies of education (such as Trends in Mathematics and Science Studies (TIMSS) and Progress in International Reading Literacy Studies (PIRLS) across the globe in order to provide educators, policymakers, and parents with insights into how students perform.

This committee provides expert review and guidance to ensure the high quality of the IEA research publications. Members of PEC have considerable experience with educational assessment and IEA studies, and are involved at all stages of the publication process. They represent an eminent group of scholars from institutions across the world including those from Humboldt University, Germany; Princeton & Harvard Universities in USA.
